- Transportation to and from Auke Bay via
the C/V Desire is always included.
- Salmon fishing is predominantly along the
West Side of Shelter and Admiralty Islands although we frequently fish
for salmon on halibut trips into Icy Strait and Lynn Canal.
- Icy Strait is the main migration corridor
for salmon and halibut traveling from the Pacific to their summer
feeding grounds and spawning streams in the inside waters of Northern
Southeast Alaska.
- These rich waters are also the summer
feeding grounds for Humpback whales returning from their winter sojourns
in Hawaii and Mexico. Expect to see these big mammals daily.
- Orca or killer whales are quite numerous
here also and are frequently encountered on our daily outings.
- Admiralty Island is home to the highest
density of Alaskan Brown Bears (one per square mile or about 1700) and
the highest density of nesting Bald Eagles in North America. Although we
occasionally see bears while trolling along the shores of Admiralty the
eagles are our constant companions—bring your camera.
