Micro-Lodge

We would like to invite you to visit the Whale’s Eye Lodge, Juneau Alaska's unique salmon and halibut fishing experience. Our intent is to provide you with a top quality adventure on a "micro-lodge" scale. Inviting only a few guests at a time allows us to make your visit more personal, like staying with friends or family while fishing Alaska.

The Lodge is located on Shelter Island (population 12), a roadless wilderness island approximately one mile wide and nine miles long just north of Juneau Alaska. A thirty minute boat ride from Auke Bay Harbor, the Lodge occupies beach front property overlooking Saginaw Channel, Admiralty Island and the Chilkat Mountains. It is the year round home of Rick and Karen Bierman.

Wilderness

Welcome to the heart of the Tongass, the largest intact temperate rain forest in North America. Peaceful waters surrounded by glaciers and snow capped mountains, this is Alaska salt water fishing at its best. Fish beneath soaring eagles and beside breaching humpback whales. May through September, you will find five species of Pacific Salmon, halibut, steelhead, Dolly Varden, cod and rockfish swarming the Inside Passage to feed in these rich waters.

Fishing

Getting close to the natural world brings people closer to each other. Most of our clients are father son, husband wife and whole family groups; brothers, sisters and friends looking to spend quality time with each other. The Whale’s Eye is your special place to leave the busy world behind and relax with the people who really count. Four to six people have the entire Lodge to themselves. We cater to your desires.
